Security & backups

Protection you don’t have to think about

SSL, daily backups, updates and spam protection keep your website, your email and your customers’ data safe.

Security builds trust

Customers expect the padlock in their browser, and search engines rank secure sites higher. Behind the scenes, regular updates and reliable backups are what keep a website safe from attacks and accidents.

All of this is included when we host your website.

How we keep you safe

  • SSL certificates

Every site we host has free, auto-renewing HTTPS with Let’s Encrypt – nothing to buy and nothing to renew.

  • Daily backups

We back up your website every day and keep copies for up to a month, on servers in the EU, so we can roll back if anything goes wrong.

  • Updates

We keep WordPress or Joomla, themes and plugins up to date to close security holes quickly.

  • Spam & blacklist monitoring

We filter spam and watch for blacklisting, so your emails reach your customers’ inboxes.

Security FAQs

Contact us straight away. We can restore a clean copy from our daily backups, find out how the attacker got in and close the gap so it doesn’t happen again.

No. A free Let’s Encrypt certificate gives exactly the same encryption as a paid one, and visitors see the same padlock. Browsers stopped showing the company name for “Extended Validation” (EV) certificates back in 2019, and the “warranties” sold with paid certificates practically never pay out. That’s why we’ve given every site we host a free certificate since 2016, and why we don’t sell paid ones. If someone tries to sell you one, you can safely say no.

No – shorter is safer. Your certificate renews automatically well before it runs out, so there’s nothing to remember and nothing on your site changes. And if a certificate ever had to be withdrawn, a short one stops working quickly instead of hanging around for a year. The whole industry is going the same way: since March 2026 no certificate, free or paid, can be valid for more than 200 days. That drops to 100 days in March 2027 and to 47 days in March 2029, so longer certificates simply aren’t available any more.

No. Paid “secured by” seals and trust badges don’t make a website any safer – they’re just a picture. Most visitors don’t notice them, and nobody can tell a real one from a copy. What keeps your site safe is HTTPS, updates and backups, and all of those are included when we host your site.
